Whenever we want to video tape John, he LOVES to stick his fingers up his nose. Seriously … this is every time!! The other thing he likes to do, and he learned this one from Ana, is when you want to snap a photo of him and ask him “Say Cheese” he will raise his arms up and stick out his tongue!

Sewing: Pattern Weights

Now that my sewing room has been cleaned up and somewhat organized, I was able to work on a project I started back in Seattle. I’m super excited about my sewing room and have been making a list of things I want to make. I’ve been inspired to make my own pattern weights to keep things “pinned down” without using too many pins and to keep my papers from flying away. Here is a Cat in the Hat (used my scraps) set. They were simple and very easy to make! I found this pattern from another mom’s blog site. The kids were having fun tossing them around and David started showing off by juggling for the kids!

David found a passport size photo of Helen when we were cleaning up one of the guest bedrooms downstairs. Obviously, it was the room Helen used before she moved into the Ohana. Here’s a fun Wanted poster David made while she was out playing in the beach. She thought it was funny and was looking for her passport photo for a while. I hope she still finds it funny when she looks through this blog!

Settling In Maui

Well, folks, The Laws have moved again! This time we have decided to settle down in Maui for at least a year and a half. With our upcoming restaurant opening and with Grace starting Kindergarten in the Fall, we have decided to sell our Seattle home and live the island life until we know our next venture. Unfortunately, with our move, we lost our au pair, Ana. The agency that we have been using, Cultural Care Au Pair, does not support Hawaii or Alaska. Therefore, we had to sadly leave Ana behind in Seattle until she either finds another host family or she will have to return to Mexico. It was a shock to everyone, especially since we received the news just 3 days before our flight out to Maui. I’m sure she will visit us in the summer!!

Since arriving, I have found a daycare nearby that will take Johnny for care twice a week, got Grace back into her Anuenue Preschool again, found a sweet gal from Oklahoma as our new sitter for the kids, searched for new house cleaners and unpacked all our boxes and suitcases!! Whew! It’s been hectic, but we are happy to be settling down. I am finding out more and more that the locals here don’t really want to get too close to you if they know you are transient. It made me sad to know that I have to start all over again (as far as making friends are concerned) and made it even more heartbreaking seeing that this is exactly what Grace has been going through. Watching Grace go from “Miss Popular” to “Miss Shy” has been painful both here in Maui and also briefly in Seattle.

Keeping our fingers crossed for a quick sale of our gorgeous home in Seattle. We did a lot of work to it and as usual, just as we are selling it, more finishing touches were done to make it even MORE beautiful! View Seattle Home. And will keep you posted with our restaurant, naming it and determining the theme of it will require some time (although we have something in mind already). But for now, Helen and James are continuing to run it as Moana Bakery and Cafe for the time being. The current staff there are excited for the change and structure that comes with new ownership.

Finally, David has decided to give up one of our guest rooms to be my … Sewing Room!! Yay! I will be holed in one of our bedrooms sewing as much as possible. New company to be announced once I have set it up!!

From Whistler to Irvine

A whirlwind of a trip … We decided to take our “vacation” when Alexandra arrived into Seattle for her Spring Break. We started off with a ski vacation up in Whistler, BC. Packed up the Toyota full of junk/road trip food, our snowboards, every winter outfit we owned and off we went to play in the snow!

After our fun on the slopes, we drove down our two cars to Palo Alto and Irvine, CA. We saw Franklin & his kids as well as hanging out with my sister Jeanie and her family. And finally, before jumping on a flight back to Seattle, we stopped off at Hollywood to do a little walk along Hollywood Blvd.
